On the metabolites produced by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides a fungus proposed for the Ambrosia artemisiifolia biocontrol; spectroscopic data and absolute configuration assignment of colletochlorin A

Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. is responsible for serious allergies induced on humans. Different approaches for its control were proposed during the COST Action FA1203 “Sustainable management of Ambrosia artemisiifolia in Europe” (SMARTER). Fungal secondary metabolites often show potential herbicidal activity. Three phytotoxins were purified from the fungal culture filtrates of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, isolated from infected leaves of A. artemisiifolia. They were identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods as colletochlorin A, orcinol and tyrosol (1, 2 and 3). The absolute configuration 6’R to colletochlorin A was assigned for the first time applying the advanced Mosher’s method. When assayed by leaf-puncture on A. artemisiifolia only 1 caused the appearance of large necrosis. The same symptoms were also induced by 1 on ambrosia plantlets associated with plant wilting. On Lemna minor, colletochlorin A caused a clear fronds browning, with a total reduction in chlorophyll content.     

Gaps in the number of generators of monomial Togliatti systems

Let $I_{d,n}?k[x_0,?,x_n]$ be a minimal monomial Togliatti system of forms of degree d. In [4], Mezzetti and Miró-Roig proved that the minimal number of generators $\mu (I_{d,n})$ of $I_{d,n}$ lies in the interval $[2n+1,\left(\begin{array}{c}n+d?1\\ n?1\end{array}\right)]$. In this paper, we prove that for $n\ge 4$ and $d\ge 3$, the integer values in $[2n+3,3n?1]$ cannot be realized as the number of minimal generators of a minimal monomial Togliatti system. We classify minimal monomial Togliatti systems $I_{d,n}?k[x_0,?,x_n]$ of forms of degree d with $\mu (I_{d,n})=2n+2$ or 3n (i.e. with the minimal number of generators reaching the border of the non-existence interval). Finally, we prove that for $n=4$, $d\ge 3$ and $\mu \in [9,\left(\begin{array}{c}d+3\\ 3\end{array}\right)]?\{11\}$ there exists a minimal monomial Togliatti system $I_{d,n}?k[x_0,?,x_n]$ of forms of degree d with $\mu (I_{n,d})=\mu$.     

On the Lipschitz equivalence of self‐affine sets

Recently Lipschitz equivalence of self‐similar sets on has been studied extensively in the literature. However for self‐affine sets the problem is more awkward and there are very few results. In this paper, we introduce a w‐Lipschitz equivalence by repacing the Euclidean norm with a pseudo‐norm w. Under the open set condition, we prove that any two totally disconnected integral self‐affine sets with a common matrix are w‐Lipschitz equivalent if and only if their digit sets have equal cardinality. The main methods used are the technique of pseudo‐norm and Gromov hyperbolic graph theory on iterated function systems.     

Bounded sets structure of CpX and quasi‐(DF)‐spaces

For wide classes of locally convex spaces, in particular, for the space $C_p(X)$ of continuous real‐valued functions on a Tychonoff space X equipped with the pointwise topology, we characterize the existence of a fundamental bounded resolution (i.e., an increasing family of bounded sets indexed by the irrationals which swallows the bounded sets). These facts together with some results from Grothendieck's theory of $(DF)$‐spaces have led us to introduce quasi‐ $(DF)$‐spaces, a class of locally convex spaces containing $(DF)$‐spaces that preserves subspaces, countable direct sums and countable products. Regular $(LM)$‐spaces as well as their strong duals are quasi‐ $(DF)$‐spaces. Hence the space of distributions $D^{\prime }(\mathrm{\Omega })$ provides a concrete example of a quasi‐ $(DF)$‐space not being a $(DF)$‐space. We show that $C_p(X)$ has a fundamental bounded resolution if and only if $C_p(X)$ is a quasi‐ $(DF)$‐space if and only if the strong dual of $C_p(X)$ is a quasi‐ $(DF)$‐space if and only if X is countable. If X is metrizable, then $C_k(X)$ is a quasi‐ $(DF)$‐space if and only if X is a σ‐compact Polish space.     

Mixing time of an unaligned Gibbs sampler on the square

The paper concerns a particular example of the Gibbs sampler and its mixing efficiency. Coordinates of a point are rerandomized in the unit square ${[0,1]}^2$ to approach a stationary distribution with density proportional to $exp(?A^2{(u?v)}^2)$ for $(u,v)\in {[0,1]}^2$ with some large parameter $A$.Diaconis conjectured the mixing time of this process to be $O\left(A^2\right)$ which we confirm in this paper. This improves on the currently known $O(exp\left(A^2\right))$ estimate.     

On images of locally finite derivations and E-derivations

Some cases of the LFED Conjecture, proposed by the second author [15], for certain integral domains are proved. In particular, the LFED Conjecture is completely established for the field of fractions $k(x)$ of the polynomial algebra $k[x]$, the formal power series algebra $k[[x]]$ and the Laurent formal power series algebra $k[[x]][x^{?1}]$, where $x=(x_1,x_2,\dots ,x_n)$ denotes n commutative free variables and k a field of characteristic zero. Furthermore, the relation between the LFED Conjecture and the Duistermaat–van der Kallen Theorem [3] is also discussed and emphasized.     

On the limit Sobolev regularity for Dirichlet and Neumann problems on Lipschitz domains

We construct a bounded C¹ domain Ω in for which the regularity for the Dirichlet and Neumann problems for the Laplacian cannot be improved, that is, there exists f in such that the solution of in Ω and either on or on is contained in but not in for any . An analogous result holds for Sobolev spaces with .     

A note on the eigenvalues of p‐fractional Hardy–Sobolev operator with indefinite weight

In this article, we study the eigenvalues of p‐fractional Hardy operator where , , , and Ω is an unbounded domain in with Lipschitz boundary containing 0. The weight function V may change sign and may have singular points. We also show that the least positive eigenvalue is simple and it is uniquely associated to a nonnegative eigenfunction. Moreover, we proved that there exists a sequence of eigenvalues as .     

An anisotropic area-preserving flow for convex plane curves

This paper will deal with an anisotropic area-preserving flow which keeps the convexity of the evolving curve and the limiting curve converges to a homothety of a symmetric smooth strictly convex plane curve.     

Explicit uniform bounds on integrals of Bessel functions and trace theorems for Fourier transforms

Explicit and partly sharp estimates are given of integrals over the square of Bessel functions with an integrable weight which can be singular at the origin. They are uniform with respect to the order of the Bessel functions and provide explicit bounds for some smoothing estimates as well as for the L² restrictions of Fourier transforms onto spheres in which are independent of the radius of the sphere. For more special weights these restrictions are shown to be Hölder continuous with a Hölder constant having this independence as well. To illustrate the use of these results a uniform resolvent estimate of the free Dirac operator with mass in dimensions is derived.
